Hello Joe12 and welcome to 247Fixes.
Just for clarification is this the driver you tried to install? If so what happened when you ran it?

Hi thanks for the response and ,yes that is the driver, and it installs like all the others except it doesn't require a restart.
After installed i get the same yellow ! on device manager with no change even after i restart it says found new hardware search for drivers, so i direct it to the folder with driver and it says cannot find, so i unpack the files from the driver and direct it to there same thing cannot find, so im assuming they just threw a random driver on that site they thought worked but i dont know where or what other driver i need?
also ive had xp on this system before with working internet so its not the hardware

Hi Joe12. My apologies for the delay in replying but I did not get any email notification of your replies.
What I would do in your situation is to run the Intel Chipset Support for Windows found on this HP Support page and then I would run the Intel PRO/1000 GT Drivers for All Operating Systems found there also. It would make sense you would have an Intel NIC with that chipset. In any case, it won't do any harm to run the chipset driver.
What is telling you that you have a 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Controller? To be sure what you have, you can run System Information for Windows (SIW). I prefer the SIW Standalone as it doesn't actually install on your system.

Sweet Thanks, i was probly 13 or 14 last time i had a win98 or 95 machine so don't know very much about the OS itself(besides how to run old games), but ill be sure to try that (i was gonna install xp on it , but i dont want to due to incompatibility with older games(and im not a fan of dosbox)) so ill try that and let you know if it works, thanks again sorry for my late response.
