The Recovery disk is used to recover your system to it's factory settings which I don't think is what you want.
Do you have the Windows XP disk with you though? If not, please follow the steps below to create a Recovery Console image file. You will need a few spare CDs.
Download and Burn the RC Image File
Please download RC.iso image file to your working computer's desktop.
Now please Burn the image onto a CD. A free Image Burning CD download can be found over here
Instructions or tutorial on Burning ISO files can be found over here.

Okay.
Is your system dual-boot or just a single? Do you still remember if you did any Microsoft Windows Updates ever? Is this a computer that I have helped you in the Malware Removal forum?

Try running the "BootCfg /Rebuild" command from the Recovery Console. Refer to the two links below on instructions on doing so...

See if that works and report back here letting me know.

Hello.
Sorry for the delay. For some reason I didn't reply here which I thought I did.
That seems to be some serious windows problem missing here.
If a format is done and if you used the recovery disk to restore it to it's factory settings, then I believe the computer is working fine now?

Hello again.
It seems that the only way to resolve that problem you have now is a repair install. If there's more damaged caused for this computer, other things may be involved which I'm not too sure. Do you have any data files or important documents you wish or need to backup here? If not, I would just use your Recovery Disk insert it and do a full repair install using that.
NOTE that your previous programs, files etc... will be gone as it resets it back to its' factory settings.
Let me know. If so, we will create a bootable CD to back up some of the information data you need.
