Trouble With Zip Files
#1

Hello Everyone. I am newbie here so bear with me.
Whenever I download a zip file, when I try to unzip it using either Winzip Or Winrar, I get an error stating that there are no files to extract!!!! I have no idea where to look to find out why there is nothing to extract. The file(s) seem to be there in the compressed file(zip or rar) but only a text file or info file is there when extracted. I am using Firefox as my default browser in Windows XP Home SP3.IE7 is in the background.
HELP!!!! Thanks

Hello and welcome to 247Fixes! :welcome:
When you say ".zip" file do you mean compressed archive file with the file extension of .zip or are you referring to compressed archive files in general?
--
What version is your WinZip/WinRar and what's the file name of the archive/compressed file you're trying to compress? I have seen unicoded character compressed files not work, so let me know about that.
Can you extract it by right-clicking on the .zip file and selecting Extract All... and see if that works? Windows XP and later version has a built in extractor. Make sure that your download wasn't corrupted either.
Let me know how it goes.
With Regards,
Extremeboy

I got the link from this forum. I can't find it now but I have had problems with other zip and rar files that I have downloaded off the internet. When I use my newreader, rar and zip files work fine. It leads me to believe it may be a setting in Firefox and/or IE7.
BTW,,thanks for the fast replies!!!

You can download the non-zip version from here: http://www.filehippo..._mydefrag/tech/
Shouldn't be related to the settings as that usually don't affect .zip download contents.
What do you mean "newreader"?
I'll look into this.

I am running Windows XP SP3 and after a recent reinstall ( picked up a nasty trojan ) explorer.exe hangs and I have to open the task manager, stop the process then re enter explorer.exe as a new task.
I do not know where to go or what to do. Explorer.exe will use 99% of the system resources and will not reset by itself. I have tried closing everything that is running in the background but it still hangs. There is no particular task that I do that starts the issue, it just happens at various times.
Any suggestions??? Thanks

Seems that's malware related. I would suggest starting a new topic over here: http://www.247fixes....-removal-forum/
Read the instruction in this topic on what to do: http://www.247fixes....hijackthis-log/
Then we can continue from there.
