Hello.

I'll look in to that however, just 2 quick questions:

1) Is the CD in the CD-ROM drive still?
2) I've tried the repair install twice (cleaning the cd in between tries). <- What do you mean you "cleaned"?

a) I'm not exactly sure the situation or visualizing what you're saying exactly, so if you don't mind perhaps upload a picture of the screen you're seeing using a camera or something and save it on your working PC and upload it to Media Fire and give me the sharing URL so I can see too. The Cd is still in the cd drive.

Cleaning referred to taking the disk out between repairs and cleaning it with a cloth to make sure that there was no smudges or scratches on it that would prevent any file from being copied. this was suggested in one of the warnings on the link you sent me to to repair using the disk.

Hello.

From, looking at your previous topic with Ror, it seems the drive is NTFS.

Read here: http://support.micro...om/?kbid=311755

Follow the instructions under Hard disk formatted with NTFS file system and under the subheading Method 1:

Let me know how it goes. Any problems, questions please let me know.

I turned off and on the computer again, but shit + f10 did not bring up a command prompt, and I was unable to continue.

I'll look into this but:

Quote

When you receive the error message, press SHIFT+F10 to start a command session.

Did you press Shift+F10 when you received the message or did you do that elsewhere?

Hello.

I looked at that screenshot again, and I see a "dropdown" arrow. Can you click that and see if there's anything underneath that? Also, let me know if you can type into the open field box. If so, try typing in D:\i386 as the destination path and see if the installation would continue.

That may not be working for you because your keyboard is not working. let me know.

I asked one of the techs and it seems that error/problem you recieved is due to some damage/scratch on the CD from what we experienced before.

Give me some time and I'll post back here.

Thanks for understanding. I'll ask for some suggestions from some others and see if they have any thing to add before we continue here with what I think.

With Regards,

I asked about it and right now the best thing would be to see if your friend or relatives have an XP CD that you can use to do the reinstall as it appears yours may be slightly damaged.

Someone upstairs got a new computer last week, I used the reinstall disk with XP Pro Service Pack 3. I went to install windows, went to repair, it installed everything, rebooted, and I got the same-ish problem:
[Files Needed]
The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

Copy files from:
(in drop down box) GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386

and just like before, nothing responds to the mouse or keyboard.

Yikes!
