Hi, I'm jpshortsuff. I trained for removing Malware at WhatTheTech, with a bit of extra stuff at Malware Removal University. I'm pretty active, you'll see me around a lot of the time, often just watching, but I do some helpful stuff as well sometimes.
I am currently studying Computing/Computer Science and am about to start a course at University in the subject. Hopefully I will go into the Software Development industry after this, but who knows where I'll end up. Music is my other passion, I listen to it whenever I can. Mainly metal. Beer is good too See you around Home Forum: WhatTheTech, 247Fixes Operating System(s): Windows XP (Media Center) + Ubuntu Linux Anti-Virus: Avast! Free Firewall: Comodo Additional Security Software: WinPatrol Internet Browser(s): Firefox 1. What led you to become a Malware Fighter and to volunteer your expertise online? Became infected myself and was helped out at WhatTheTech. From that moment I decided I wanted to learn and help people as well. 2. Have you always been into computers? Is computing a passion, career, or hobby for you? Pretty much been into computers since I came to use them. At the moment its a hobby, hopefully be a career eventually, once I'm done with education. 3. Are there any other sites that you donate your time to? Sites that I am authorized to help at (bold means help most active at):
4. What is the average of number of HijackThis logs a week you do and how long does it take for you to research one? Varies a lot depending on how busy I am with my education. Ranges from about 2-3 to about 8-10 5. Do you have any other interests in computing besides Malware Removal? I enjoy programming, and that's where my education is heading. 6. Did you build your own PC? No, may well do in the future though. 7. Do you ever get asked to help someone with their computer offline? No on any large scale, things like people asking me how to do something in MS Word and stuff. 8. What is your must-have requirement for sitting at your computer? Music. 9. When was the last time you've been infected (not intentionally)? March 2007 10. Can you be found in the #killspyware chat room? Yes, pretty frequently. |

I dont actually know to be honest. I take a set of logs at once and depending how fast the cleaning process goes, I take more. I do however have the time constraint of only doing this in evening times due to work. How long to research? Never really stopped the time. Usually pretty fast though. Tend to be overly thorough at times lol (guess thats the German blood) and thus causing sometimes unnecessary extra research time). 5. Do you have any other interests in computing besides Malware Removal? If I have time, I try to do programming, I tend to read a lot of rss feeds, and chat with my friends whom I d otherwise have difficulties keeping in touch with (different countries across the globe). 6. ok ok. I'm Kat! *shock* I'm an Admin here at 247, and proudly so! I've been around the game nearly five years now, with no sign of getting tired of it all!
Home Forum: GeeksToGo Operating System(s): Windows XP Professional Anti-Virus: Nod32 Firewall: None Additional Security Software: None Internet Browser(s): Firefox Area(s) Of Expertise: Malware, Hardware, Software, Windows OS's, Networking 1. What led you to become a Malware Fighter/Tech Helper and volunteer your expertise online? do I HAVE to go into that story again? QUOTE Nearly five years ago, I was a total n00b. Didn't have a firewall, used Kazaa...and got mightily infected with a TON of crap. Posted at SWI, Pieter (Metallica) rescued me. I was not only a n00b, I was also annoying and asked a gazillion "WHY" questions, which PIeter answered very patiently... he then dragged my sorry butt to Boot Camp. I had a huge amount of respect for him then, and even more so now. I joined... and made Helper fairly quickly. Not long later... I ended up becoming a Helper at Subratam.org, and a GloMod at Net-Integration. After my illness in 2004, I stopped doing HJT logs, as I was in and out "sick" for several months. I did, however, keep chatting with everyone on IRC daily. In April of 2005, Schwerv, Rocky, and Efwis FORCED me to join Geeks and get back in the saddle. (for which I am ETERNALLY grateful!!!) I ran thru GeekU to make sure I hadn't forgotten what I was doing, and well... here I am. I LOVE doing HJT logs...but I honestly enjoy the Admin. side of things better..the details, the people-handling, etc 2. Have you always been into computers? Is computing a passion, career, or hobby for you? nope. I didn't get "in" to computers until about five years ago. It's all of the above, really. I work from home, working for Chris Pirillo as his Assistant. 3. Are there any other sites that you donate your time to? Too many to list. ALL of them, pretty much. 4. What is the average of number of HijackThis logs a week you do and how long does it take for you to research one? I used to do tons of them, but I rarely take one anymore at all. I spend too much time teaching and being an Admin. 5. Did you design/make your own PC? Yes 6. What is your least favorite thing about building/upgrading a PC? none 7. When was the first time you built your first system? How many computers have you built since then? six months or so ago 8. Do you ever get asked to help someone with their computer offline? More then I care to remember. 9. What is your must-have requirement for sitting at your computer? Pepsi 10. Can you be found in the #killspyware chat room? Yes all day every day! I'm connected 247 |

Hello. My name is Billy Robert O'Neal III. Bill, and/or Billy for short (not William, because that's not my name). I am a High School student, and started using Dad's 486DX when I was 3 years old. (Which was bought the year I was born, 1990, and was the family computer for 10 years afterward. 300MB hard disk. Really fun when the CMOS battery died and one had to type in all the info every time you used the thing) (Played with MS Paint on Windows 3.1) I got into a game called "SimTower", which got me interested in possibly programming my own games. In 6th grade, I started to experiment with C++. Many people would have me constantly fixing their computers, which got me more into the service related field.
I am currently in the process of programming some tools to help the helper, but I'll release those when they are ready to be useful Home Forum: BleepingComputer.com Operating System(s): Windows 98 (in a VM for old games), Windows 2k, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Fedora 8 (upgrading to 9 sometime here) Anti-Virus: None. (Do use the ESET OnlineScan every once in a while...) Firewall: DD-WRT router Additional Security Software: None. Internet Browser(s): FireFox 2/3 1. What led you to become a Malware Fighter and to volunteer your expertise online? I got a job as a tech at a local PC repair shop called Eikons Consulting, Inc. I worked there for a year and a half, and I taught myself how to use HJT to remove some stubborn infections by reading HJT topics at BC.com. Eventually, I wanted to give back to the BC.com helpers who had gotten me out of a lot of sticky situations 2. Have you always been into computers? Is computing a passion, career, or hobby for you? Since I was 3. Currently a career and a hobby. 3. Are there any other sites that you donate your time to? Not yet.... 4. What is the average of number of HijackThis logs a week you do and how long does it take for you to research one? Average is... Oh, 10-15 a week. It would be more, but I'm limited to 10 open CMFs. As far as time goes, it goes from 5 minnutes to several hours depending on the issues and infections present. 5. Do you have any other interests in computing besides Malware Removal? Software Development. This is my target career. (Some nifty tools to follow if I ever get the damn things done) 6. Did you build your own PC? I could, but no, I needed Dell to do it so I could finance it. 7. Do you ever get asked to help someone with their computer offline? Every time I go to work 8. What is your must-have requirement for sitting at your computer? My room can't be a pigsty. 9. When was the last time you've been infected (not intentionally)? ~5 years ago. 10. Can you be found in the #killspyware chat room? Honestly don't even know how to get there. Hello all! Billy3 |
